Friendship Lessons with Lannie
Friendship Lessons with Lannie; PEERS for Individuals Living with Intellectual Disabilities. Adapted from PEERS for Young Adults, Friendship Lessons with Lannie follows the same curriculum, the concepts are taught in a relaxed, fun atmosphere with more time for discussion and practice. Progress through the program depends on the group; skills review per topic will continue until the skills are understood before proceeding to the next topic.

Participants must complete an Intake Interview prior to enrolment and are selected by their interest in participating, level of understanding and the group composition.

The PEERS Facilitator teaches the Friendship Lessons with Lannie program to the Participants and oversees the full program.

Volunteers act as Behaviour Coaches to assist with practicing, role-playing and general support for the Participants during the session.

Friendship Lessons with Lannie meets weekly on Sunday afternoon from 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Participants are expected to participate in the social skills learning and practice sessions

Participants build and expand their understanding of the skills that they learn as they progress through the program

Participants experience the program from various perspectives as we discuss the perspectives of all Participants in the group.

Homework expectations are minimal; homework “challenges” are encouraged but optional for the Participant.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for attending the Friendship Lessons with Lannie program.

The value of Friendship Lessons with Lannie is $300 per Participant; PEERS MJ is currently offering 10 spots for free for 2024/2025 operating year due to a Gift-in-Kind partnership with Kinsmen Inclusion Centre.
