Friendship Lessons with Lannie

Friendship Lessons with Lannie; PEERS for Individuals Living with Intellectual Disabilities.  Adapted from PEERS for Young Adults, Friendship Lessons with Lannie follows the same curriculum, the concepts are taught in a relaxed, fun atmosphere with more time for discussion and practice.  Progress through the program depends on the group; skills review per topic will continue until the skills are understood before proceeding to the next topic.

  • Participants must complete an Intake Interview prior to enrolment and are selected by their interest in participating, level of understanding and the group composition.

  • The PEERS Facilitator teaches the Friendship Lessons with Lannie program to the Participants and oversees the full program.

  • Volunteers act as Behaviour Coaches to assist with practicing, role-playing and general support for the Participants during the session.

  • Friendship Lessons with Lannie meets weekly on Sunday afternoon from 12:30pm to 1:30pm

  • Participants are expected to participate in the social skills learning and practice sessions

  • Participants build and expand their understanding of the skills that they learn as they progress through the program

  • Participants experience the program from various perspectives as we discuss the perspectives of all Participants in the group.

  • Homework expectations are minimal; homework “challenges” are encouraged but optional for the Participant.

  • Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for attending the Friendship Lessons with Lannie program.
